Gong Teck (功德) Ceremony

Gong Teck (功德 or Kong Teck) is a Buddhist or Taoist big ritual to commemorate the departure of the deceased, free of illness and onto the next phase of life. It is done to show deep respect for the deceased. It can take place on the 49th, 100th, or on the one or two years following the death.

Experienced monks/priests are engaged for the chanting of mantras. This practice gathered merits for the ancestors, thereby benefitting the descendants.

In addition to food offerings, various burning items like paper house, paper car, gold/silver mountains, folded joss papers symbolizing gold and silver ingots are burn for the deceased.
